For example, if you learn a list of words in one room, you are more likely to recall the list of words accurately in the same room rather than in another. This can explain why people forget what they need from the supermarket. The information was likely learned at home, e.g. in the kitchen, which is a different environment from the supermarket.

A state-related cue is an internal factor that acts as a retrieval cue, such as physiological state. This can explain why so many people forget during important exams. The information was learned in a relaxed state but had to be recalled in a stressed state.
